How Do The 21 Day Fix Portion Control Containers Work?

“Put my food in containers?… That won’t work, what a stupid idea!”

This is what I said several years ago when the 21 Day Fix first came on the scene. I remember being at a Beachbody Coach Leadership Event in Dana Point, CA. when Autumn Calabrese was first introduced and the 21 Day Fix program was “unveiled”. At the time I thought the concept of the the 21 Day “FIX” was gimmicky. I thought people wouldn’t like the idea of measuring out their food portions on containers…

And I Was WRONG…

The 21 Day Fix was (and still is) a huge hit. People loved the concept and millions of people got incredible results from this program.

I have an open mind and am always willing to try new things before I give my opinion, so I eventually tried the portion control containers and I actually loved it. To see what a day of eating on the containers looks like, click here.

In the video below Autumn Calabrese, the creator of the 21 Day Fix explains the meal plan and containers system.

Because the 21 Day Fix portion control containers where so popular, Beachbody decided to adopt the concept for all of their new programs. So while the actual meal plan might vary slightly from program to program, the concept and purpose of the containers is the same. The portion control containers ensure that you get the proper servings each day of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vegetable, and fruits.

For example, a day of eating might look like this:

  • 6 protein servings (red container)
  • 6 vegetable servings (green containers)
  • 4 carbohydrate servings (yellow container)
  • 1 healthy fat serving (blue container)
  • 4 fruits servings (purple container)
  • And 1 orange containers for seeds and dressings

The above numbers are an example of what the recommendations are for me, your actual daily container recommendations will vary based on you gender, weight, and goals.

Eating Healthy Doesn’t Mean It Has To Taste Bad

The first step is determining how many portions of each container you should be eating daily, and that is all laid out for you in the program nutrition guides. Once you know how many containers and servings you should be eating each day, you just follow the plan. Along with containers comes a food list for each container, so there is no guesswork.

No Need To Count Calories

Instead of counting calories, you’re counting portions and learning what you should and shouldn’t be eating. For example, when I started using the portion control container system I learned that I wasn’t eating nearly enough vegetables. The program called for 6 servings of vegetables a day I was eating only 1-2.

This isn’t just a “diet” that you follow for 21 days and then you’re done. This is teaching you how to eat properly. After a few days of following the plan I was feeling great and noticed an increase in my energy levels.

Simple, But Not Easy

The 21 Day Fix portion control container system is simple to follow. All you have to do is eat the correct portions of the foods from the foods list. It’s a simple concept, but not easy to stick to.

How so?

What about the foods that aren’t on the list. The sweets and sugars many of us crave. We’re human and these cravings are hard to resist. It takes constant effort to make the right decisions.

Here’s what I’ve realized… Losing weight and getting in shape, is mostly mental.

We all know that we should exercise and eat good, so why don’t we do it?

And I’m not here preaching from my ivory tower, I’m far from perfect. I know I shouldn’t eat 6 slices of pizza in one sitting, but I did that just a few nights ago.

The point is, the 21 Day Fix meal plan and portion control container system gives you a plan to follow, but it’s still up to you to follow it. In a future post I will go into my weight loss mindset hacks with some tips on how to become stronger mentally and actually stick to the plan.

The 21 Day Fix’s plan works if you follow it. Even if you fall off a little, you will still see results.

Will I Be Starving On The 21 Day Fix?

A common question asked is, “will I be hungry?”

And the answer is no. When following the 21 Day Fix portion control container system, you are actually eating a decent amount of food. Many people say that by following the plan they are actually eating more than before they were on the plan. It’s just that they’re eating more healthy foods.

Overall, the 21 Day Fix is a great program and I’m certain you will see great results, if you follow the program they way you’re supposed. And there’s nothing to lose. It comes with a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee, so if you complete the program and aren’t happy with your results, you can send it back and get a full refund, no questions asked. Because the program is only 21 days, and the refund period is 30 day, that means you technically could complete the entire program before the refund period has passed.
